Frequently Asked Questions

Are you qualified?

I have a level 7 Post-Grad Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling from the University of Aberdeen, am insured, and am a BACP member. You can be assured that my practice is client-focused, safe and held to ethical standards.

Why do people go to therapy?

There are a multitude of reasons! It could be for support with something specific that is challenging you, to help with psychological distress, to maintain emotional wellbeing, to improve relationships or navigate life changes, there are many things therapy can help with.

What is person-centred therapy?

The person-centred approach is a form of psychotherapy that puts the focus on you, the client’s perspective and experiences. Person-centred therapists believe that you, the client, can heal and undergo personal growth if you are given a supportive and non-judgemental environment to work through things. Person-centred therapy is supported by strong evidence-based research, and is viewed as an effective approach to promote emotional well-being and emotional growth.

What should I expect in a session?

You can expect an open and honest conversation. As the therapist, it is my role to create a safe space for you to explore your feelings, thoughts and experiences. I will listen empathetically, and although I won’t offer you solutions, opinions or tell you what to do, I will reflect back to you what I hear in our sessions, to help you gain insight and clarity. There is no fixed agenda in a session, you can share as much or as little as you feel like. I will not ask intrusive questions, the discussion centres on what you would like to disclose.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

The support I provide as your therapist is tailored to your individual needs. Some clients find it helpful to talk a lot, some can find it overwhelming at times, either way, I will sit with you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies from person to person, depending on their needs and goals. There is not a time limit on how many sessions we can have. Some clients feel relief after a few sessions and are ready to cease therapy, while others may feel they need support for longer. It is up to the client, although we will regularly review together how you feel things are going and whether you would like further sessions.

How long is a session, and how much do you charge?

A therapy session is 50 minutes long, and costs £55. Payment should be made via bank transfer no later than 24 hours before an arranged session. Most clients like to come every week, however I understand that this is not possible for everyone, so will try and work with you to find the best fit.

We understand that financial restriction can be a barrier to accessing therapy. If you are seeking therapy, and are unwaged on on a reduced income, please get in touch via the contact form or message through our social media pages to discuss whether a concessional rate would be appropriate.

What is your cancellation policy?

I will always endeavour to give you at least 24 hours notice if I need to reschedule or cancel our appointment. I ask that if you need to reschedule or cancel, that you give 24 hours notice. If insufficient notice or no notice is given then full payment for the missed session will be required.

Is the space accessible?

Yes, the counselling space is on the ground floor level, with a toilet also on the ground floor. If you have any specific accessibility needs, please do get in touch via the contact form to discuss further.

Do I have to come to you for therapy?

In addition to in-person appointments, I can offer online therapy appointments, please fill in the contact form and I will get back to you with further details.
